What are clear aligners?

ClearCorrect® aligners are an orthodontic treatment that straightens teeth and corrects malocclusions using BPA-free polyurethane resin plastic materials. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners don’t require metal brackets and wires. Instead, your dentist uses digital impressions to create custom aligners out of the plastic materials.

Since clear aligners mold to the exact shape and size of your teeth, they apply gradual force to bring your teeth into alignment, just like braces. The only difference is that they’re clear, removable, and discreet.

How are clear aligners made?

Creating clear aligners typically takes several appointments at Belgrade Family Dental. At your first visit, your dentist evaluates your smile to determine whether you’re a good candidate for clear aligners. Some cases require more advanced treatments, like braces, so it’s important to visit for a consultation before moving forward with clear aligners.

Next, your dentist takes a series of digital impressions to map your treatment plan. They send these impressions to an outside lab, which creates your custom aligners.

How do clear aligners work?

ClearCorrect® treatment plans typically have four phases. Each phase lasts about three weeks and involves wearing a different set of aligners. You should receive a new set in the mail before your next phase begins.

It’s important to wear your clear aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Remove them only to eat, drink anything but water, and brush and floss your teeth. Before replacing your aligners, rinse them to avoid trapping food debris and bacteria.
